PCCC Writing Center Opens With New Director

The PCCC Writing Center on the Paterson Campus opens for the fall semester today with a new Director.

Loren Kleinman comes to PCCC after serving as the Assistant Director of Academic Support Centers (2006-2011) at Berkeley College and as an Instructional Designer at Berkeley College Online (2011-2012).

She has a B.A. in English Literature from Drew University and an M.A. in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Sussex (UK). Her poetry has appeared in literary journals such as Nimrod, Journal of New Jersey Poets, Resurgence (UK), HerCircleEzine and Aesthetica Annual and she is the recipient of the Spire Press Poetry Prize and a 2000 and 2003 Pushcart Prize Nominee. She is currently working on her second collection of poetry, I Want No Paradise, which explores trauma narratives.

Loren also founded LK Editorial, a full-service editorial firm serving small businesses and authors in startup phases.

Loren will be managing the Writing Center Staff of consultants on the main campus and at the Wanaque and Passaic campuses. She will also be continuing the programs started during the Writing Initiative. That includes supporting the instructors and students in Writing Intensive courses, offering worksops for students and professional development for faculty.

Writing Center Staff: Dr. Martha Brozyna

The PCCC Writing Center is pleased to introduce you to our newest team member. Actually, Martha Brozyna is not new to the Writing Center, but she is new to the position of Educational Specialist.

She started working in the Writing Center in the Fall 2009 semester as a Writing Consultant and eTutor. The following semester she began teaching history at PCCC as an adjunct.

Now, as our Education Specialist, she oversees day-to-day operations at the Writing Center. Her office is within the Center.

Martha will be providing assistance in the preparation and implementation of training for Writing Center tutors and collaborating with WI faculty in the development of appropriate writing within their courses.

Dr. Brozyna went through the Initiative's Faculty Institute when she took on teaching one of the writing intensive sections of Western Civilization I. Now, in her new role, she taught other faculty during our January 2011 Faculty Institute. Having someone who has taught and developed materials for a WI course in the Education Specialist position is a great advantage for our team.

Dr. Brozyna has taught history at Rutgers for almost 12 years. She has a BA from Rutgers University in history and political science and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Southern California.

Martha replaces Claire Ribeiro who held the position since 2008. Claire has moved into a full time teaching position in the ESL department at PCCC.

New Staff Added to the Initiative

As of July 1, Elizabeth Nesius and Claire Ribeiro are now officially part of the Title V Writing Initiative team.

Elizabeth comes to us from the PCCC English department and is the Coordinator of the Writing Center.

Claire is moving from her position in the ESL Lab at the college to being the Administrator of the Writing Center.
